Great content provides something of value to the site visitor, and it provides something unique to search engines also. To avoid the "duplicate content" trap, you need a site that is unique, and that "adds to the substance of the web". To give your site visitors something good, you need to give them information that they want, in a way that they identify with. There are only a few ways to get that kind of content.
If you want a site that works well, you have to work for it. But you also have to learn some things to be able to do it right, and content is one of the things you have to learn about. In order to keep it from being too complex, we've included instructions on how to write for the web, how to format your text, how to edit images, and how to install downloads into your site. We also have instructions to help you know where to put your content, and what kinds of content are expected in each site.
Site visitors expect a few standard pages. And then they expect to be able to find other things in logical places. We explain what those are, so you can get your site right the first time.
The first time I (Laura) built a website, I struggled with it. It took until about my 20th site until I had a bit of an idea of how to organize a site well on the first try. Then it took another 20 or 30 sites before I got to the point where I had an efficient system for building a site quickly every time. I built a 50 page infosite in one week. That included writing all the pages by hand. I can now do that in less than a week, and get it right the first time. I can do it on any topic, with any product or service. My experience and my routine for building a site allows me to do it very rapidly and accurately.
Our instructions pass that experience on to you. We walk you through our routine, step by step, so you can get the content into your site fast, and so you can get it right. You won't be able to do it as fast the first time, but you'll be able to do it a lot faster and easier than if you had to do it the hard way, and you won't have to learn by making costly mistakes.
